Roses 101: Growing and Caring for Classic Blooms
Saturday, March 14
11:00 AM - 12:00 PM
$12 per person, $10 for Members


Join us for a Roses 101 course led by Rancho Los Alamitos' gardener, Ara Öraöspa. In this hour-long course, you will include the following information:
  • The annual life cycle of a rose and seasonal care appropriate to coastal Southern California.
  • Basic rose anatomy, growth habits, and what these patterns mean in practical terms
  • Rose classification and a brief history of their hybridization
  • Best practices for soil, fertilizer, watering, and transplanting, both in-ground and in containers
  • Common pest and disease management
This class will cover everything you need to know about selecting a rose before purchase and maintaining beautiful blooms year after year. It will also include an outdoor tour of the Rancho's Rose Garden, where concepts will be demonstrated. This course is aimed for novice gardeners. No previous experience is necessary.

​Tennis on the Historic Court: Community Play 

Sunday, March 22
9:00 AM - 12:00 PM, Doors open at 8:30 AM

Want to play tennis on the Rancho’s historic court? Now is your chance. Join us for a special, one-of-a-kind morning of tennis on our historic court, surrounded by our beautiful gardens. Select a one-hour reservation session and participate in relaxed, community-style play. 562 Tennis coaches Rachael Stone and Mercy Tran will organize games, rotate players, and ensure everyone has a chance to play on the court. After your session, you are welcome to stay and enjoy the grounds to socialize and take in the historic gardens.

Artist Morning
Saturday, March 28

RSVP recommended, suggested $10 donation at the door. Free onsite parking. 


Calling all art enthusiasts! Enjoy a relaxing morning at the Rancho with early access to our grounds. Bring your own art supplies and create at your own pace. Art supplies can include watercolors, oil paints, sketchbooks, digital devices, etc. The Rancho will provide extra accommodations to safely dispose of any water and trash after the session. If available, you can bring your own chair, easels, and/or blankets. The Rancho would love to see what you create and invites you to submit artwork that captures the spirit of the site for a chance to be featured on future Museum Store merchandise. Submission is optional and does not guarantee selection; selected works may be licensed for retail use. More details will be shared after your RSVP. 

Our monthly pop-up coffee cart will be on-site, selling beverages and pastries. You can choose to purchase food and drinks before or after your art session.

Inside the Blacksmith Shop
Workshop

Saturday, April 4
10:00 AM - 11:30 AM
$20 per adult, $15 per Member adult, $10 per child
​Free onsite parking. 


Join us for a workshop exploring our historic blacksmith shop. One of our volunteer blacksmiths, Paul, will demonstrate traditional blacksmithing techniques and introduce the tools used to support daily life on a working ranch. Learn why blacksmith shops were essential to ranch operations. Participants will also enjoy a hands-on activity inspired by blacksmith branding. Instructors from Tandy Leather will guide attendees in stamping designs onto vegan leather to create a take-home piece.

Cool Crafts

At our Cool Crafts Roundup, participants will get the opportunity to hear stories, roll up their sleeves, and be creative! Crafts and stories are inspired by the environment around the Rancho and offer a multitude of perspectives to create a meaningful and engaging experience. New hands-on activities every month. 

Open to all ages. Free admission, no reservations required. First come, first served basis.
